Multicultural Week

I know this is a bit, ok very late already…writing about it almost 2 months after it happened.

Everything started from March. Don’t even remember how I even got into this whole mcw business…curiosity I suppose…I was in the events team, we basically planned the events of the whole multicultural week and carry it out during the week itself. There’re other teams as well: marketing, media, logistics. At first, we came up with a lot of great ideas but got rejected. Was quite unhappy about it at first coz some of them were fresh, interesting ideas, but soon realise we really can’t handle that much. There’s only 3-4 of us and I pity the head coz she had to do a lot of stuff (not that we don’t want to, but I know sometimes it’s jus easier to do it urself). Had to make calls, send emails to ppl to enquire about dances, quotes etc..

And just when I thought my job is done, I was supposed to sell tickets for talent night in 2nd semester. Lunch time gone…sob sobs (I would b eating and jus slacking in the library anyway). T’was quite fun tho....made some frens…stress a bit about the tickets not selling out at first, but luckily still manage to sell it most of it… and showbag packing was somehow memorable…haha…a production line which managed to finish 2000 (or was it 1000?...dat’s wat happen when u blog abt sth 2 months ago).

During the week itself was really fun and exciting…it’s like our own baby coming to live, getting to see wat we’ve been planning for half a year finally coming true and the feedbacks we got back was encouraging.

Opening ceremony (Tue afternoon) was soso- speech and dances. Simple but I think it was just nice- a warm feeling to it, not too crowded. Orange ballons everywhere (but kept being taken off by passers-by)…ohya, we each got an orange shirt (which we wore for the whole week…haha)… Also manage to get some nice photos.

Talent night (Wed night) was like the highlight for my department- ran by only 3 person 2 of which emceeing. It was quite nervewrecking coz we only manage to fill up the ‘20 contestants limit’ on the day itself. I was quite nervous as wellcoz I was controlling the sound system and stuff (if I stuff it up, well, the singer will perform badly), and thanks to one of the staff there who helped me out throughout the whole night. Before that night, I went to CS karaoke night (I think was a week before then) and so was also able to comment and give idea so that ours is not as bad (lol..no offence). Tried my best to help the contestants- hope they are satisfied. Omg, that night was really awesome…all the talent we have there…not jus plain ‘ol singing…dancing, monologue, bands. And we have Christopher (one of the contestants from s’pore idol) who eventually became the winner, an old lady (who almost won Utopia’s own karaoke competition but gave up ‘so that others can win’) who was second I think (or was she the third?) and another band. Sorry to my frens whom I cant make time for. It was fun for us as well and new as well coz we hvnt had this event for two yrs if I m not mistaken and we had audience voting session (which was carried out much better than CS’s) and lucky draw which wasn’t as slow and boring. It was ‘chop chop’ and audience weren’t as felt wandering wat’s happening. Schweet… and to see my frens performing was gold…haha…ppl said it was great (better than CS’s)…*proud smile…haha

Spring feast (Thurs night)- too bad I was in the committee, so can’t simply run around to buy stuff to eat. It was something like pasar malam (night market) for those who don’t know, with alfresco eating area provided as well. Some of the nice stuff I ate: omurice (got it for free coz I ate the sample on display…lol…sold out too fast), satay from mahsuri J (somehow lost the last packet of food I bought there- satay and 3 chicken wings for $5!!!! cheap can…), emm, too bad missed out some of the food like rojak, and the ‘balls on stick (lok lok is it?)’…

Stage was so-so, didn’t really concentrate on that, but the area around it was packed, a bit too packed I think. Oh the three winners from talent night came back to perform. The cleaning up afterwards was fun, like we all cooperated and formed long chain of tables and raced… lol…screaming and yelling in uni late at night was fun, crazy actually..haha…wont get much chance of that anytime soon. Had a meeting sitting on the floor while drinking the bland and somemore with bubbles which are too rubbery free bubble tea. Then went back feeling so tired.

this one very dodgy...someone bought the wrong-sized plastic bag...so we cello-taped 4 together...until someone got the correct size....see, every small detail also hv to be considered

Movie night (Fri night) was quite sad- only 5 ppl came to watch. So, ended up us (the committee) watching the films (野蛮女友(cant remember wat’s the English name) and the valet) ourselves, ate quite a lot of sweets (bad bad…*shakes head), : )…actually I wanted to go to curtin pasar malam to see theirs but too bad, was too lazy to travel so far….

checking systems

It was fun…if not for this event, my whole yr would b quite dull dull-er…and luckily my team was all very responsible (since we only hv 3 members)…haha angkat bakul sendiri…will definitely be in it again next yr…b4 I get too busy to be involved in anything in third yr.
